Formerly known as Calcutta, the city of Kolkata is the second biggest city in India and is East India’s centre of education, culture and commerce. Kolkata is also North and East India’s primary location for finance and is home to the Calcutta Stock Exchange. Whilst there are many restaurants in the city serving up all sorts of international cuisine, you must sample some of the delicious local dishes, such as macher jhol, beguni and panipuri. Having previously held the title of India’s capital city, Kolkata has a rich cultural heritage and is known as the birthplace of modern Indian artistry and literacy. The spectacular Belur Math Shrine is an iconic landmark in Kolkata and the temple uniquely combines Hindu, Islamic and Christian motifs in its architecture. Two of the city’s most popular sports are football and cricket and you can catch a game or two at one of the city’s high capacity sporting venues, such as Eden Gardens and Salt Lake Stadium. Several schools and universities are located in Kolkata, teaching in both English and the city’s native language, Bengali. In fact, the city houses a good number of first-rate research facilities, such as the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research. But before you become completely captivated by Kolkata’s charm and artistic heritage, it is necessary to figure out the transportation of your household items. Two shipping container sizes are available, the first being a 20-foot container, which can hold the contents of a 3-bedroom house. The second is a 40-foot container, which can hold a vehicle, along with the contents of a 3-bedroom house, or the items from a 4 or 5-bedroom house only.
In general a car will fit into a 20ft container. You will also need to consider quarantine and tax charges usually levied on importing vehicles.
