With its rich, vibrant culture, glorious beaches and exciting year-round events – it’s easy to see why Rio de Janeiro attracts so many people each year. As Brazil’s second largest city, Rio de Janeiro is one of the most visited cities in the world and is home to Christ the Redeemer, one of the most iconic landmarks in the world. The city has a tropical wet and dry climate, meaning December through March there is heavy rainfall and the summers are usually hot. Expats can join in with Rio’s many cultural events, such as the Rio Carnival and the annual New Year’s Eve celebration held at Copacabana Beach. Football fans will be in their element, as football is the most popular sport in Brazil and the city is home to a large number of sporting venues. Public transport is very good in Rio de Janeiro, with buses and trains being the most popular way to travel around the city. The Biblioteca Nacional is one of the world’s largest libraries and the city boasts countless other cultural landmarks, such as the National Museum of Fine Arts and the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. You are sure to love your new home of Rio de Janeiro but prior to making the move, it is essential that you arrange the shipping of your household items. A 40-foot container could hold the items from inside a 4 or 5-bedroom house, or a 3-bedroom house along with a medium sized vehicle, such as a family car. Alternatively, a 20-foot container could hold the items from inside a 3-bedroom house, with a little room remaining for a bike or two.
In general a car will fit into a 20ft container. You will also need to consider quarantine and tax charges usually levied on importing vehicles.
