Whether you’re watching the clock strike midnight in New York, Sydney, or anywhere else in the world, you will no doubt end up saying “happy new year” to friends and family.

Being in a multicultural city, we attempted to gather as many people together in London on camera in two days to say “happy new year.” We clocked up 27 languages and captured many happy revelers wanting to wish their friends and family overseas a happy 2016.

While you may have heard some of these languages (for example, English, if you are reading this without Google Translator), but others like Garifuna may be new to you. Garifuna, listed on UNESCO’s vulnerable language list, is from St. Vincent in the Caribbean, but can be found in Central American countries Belize, Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, where it is critically endangered.

We wish we could speak all of the approximately 6,500 languages left in the world, but we do have some other language videos for you to check out.
