With its glorious temples, historical monuments and countless bazaars, the enchanting city of New Delhi certainly earns its title of India’s capital. Hinduism is by far the most popular religion in New Delhi and the famous Laxminarayan Temple is a stunning must-see landmark. Several religious festivals are celebrated here throughout the year, such as Diwali (the “festival of lights”), Durga Puja and Eid ul-Adha (“feast of the Sacrifice”). Residents can easily travel both domestically and internationally from the city’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, or explore the city by utilising one of New Delhi’s many buses, metros and railways. Marvel at the city’s many historical and architectural sites, such as the Red Fort, Jama Masjid and not forgetting the stunning 16th century Humayun’s Tomb. Watch fabulous entertainment showcases, featuring dancers and musicians from all over India, at the annual Qutub Festival. Expats should be aware that New Delhi gets very hot in the summer and the heat lasts for a rather long time, although the winters are mild and relatively dry. Learn about the city’s history and cultural past in one of the museums, for example the National Museum, the Museum of Natural History and the National Gallery of Modern Art.
