Eat Drink Perth 2014 #eatdrinkperth

Pineapple!

This article has been written for Movehub by one of our favourite bloggers, Kristy Leigh. If you're interested in good food we recommend you visit her at KristyLeigh.com - advice and info on every kind of dish, sauce, condiment, dessert and drink you can think of, from one of Perth's most knowledgable and passionate food writers.

IT'S THAT TIME of year again where the foodies come out in droves, armed with an empty stomach and an opinion on everything. Perth's "Hipster" reputation has become known world-wide and it's all because of our love for a good festival.

Banana!

Fringe World was very popular and the people of Perth were sad to see it pack up. Lucky for us, the City of Perth has planned an absolutely delicious program for the coming months. Below is some information on some fabulous events that caught my eye. However for a full program, check it out from 22nd March 2014 on the Eat Drink Perth website

The First Feast: launch of Eat Drink Perth

Presented by City of Perth and Brookfield Place

Monday 31 March 2014

Brookfield Place, 6:30pm - 10pm Ticketed event. On sale 1 March

Eat Drink Perth will be celebrating their 10th year in 2014 and the City of Perth have created a delicious schedule of events for the foodies to devour. The festival launches Monday 31st March 2014 and will be the premier event of the season.

Tomato!

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi and celebrity chef Matt Golinski will be presenting the launch and spoiling the attendees with a 3 course menu created by the businesses within Perth’s stylish hotspot – Brookfield Place. Choo Choos’s, Bar Lafayette, Sushia, The Trustee, The Heritage, Print Hall and Bobeche have collaborated to form a creative food experience.

If that’s not enough, all guests get to smuggle home a culinary goodie bag. I will certainly be trying to get my hands on a ticket to this event.

Pizza Date Night with Paul MacNish

presented by City of Perth

Wednesday 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 April 2014

Northbridge Piazza, 7pm – 10:30pm

7:30pm Food demo 2-23 April | Live jazz 30 April 8:30pm Double feature screening

FREE entry

MORE free foodie fun! The City of Perth is fantastic when providing free entertainment. This is no exception. April is Innovation Month at the Northbridge Piazza. Creating a unique experience, the City of Perth will be setting up a Dual Screen cinema and will provide the audience with headsets. Each screen will show a different film and you can choose which to “tune in” to. This is brilliant for couples who simply can’t agree on what movie to watch!

Pizza Date Night, 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th April, Eat Drink Perth, movehub

To sweeten the deal, chef Paul MacNish will be whipping up some “mouth-watering” nosh for a lucky 100 to enjoy (sample sized portions). For those who want a meal, there are plenty of options around the piazza, however my favourite choice would be the CNR Kitchen beneath the screen.

Woodfired Pizzas, fantastic coffee and friendly for all dietary requirements (including raw vegans!). I know I will be setting up camp with a pizza, the husband and tuning into Julie & Julia.

Twilight Hawker Market

Presented by City of Perth

Friday 4 & 11 April, Thursday 17 & 24 April

Forrest Place, 5pm – 9pm FREE entry

The award winning weekly street food market will be packing up for the last time in April. To celebrate a wonderful season of locally made International Food, Eat Drink Perth will be presenting their final nights in the city. I can proudly say I have attended these markets frequently over the years and absolutely love the culinary delights they provide.

It is the perfect way to end a long day at work, before hitting up Perth’s nightlife. I am particularly in love with the Mexican, Spanish, Moroccan and Chinese stands. Where else can you devour a pulled pork po-boy, dim sum buns, tagine and a paella all in the same venue for an affordable price? The best way to experience the market is to go with friends and order a variety of dishes from different stands... then share the spoils. I am one of those people who get food envy and this is the perfect way to have your cake and eat it too!

Pans!

Side note – you cannot leave without dessert. My pick is the La Paleta stand – homemade traditional Mexican Ice Treats. The Lamington and Salted Caramel flavours are truly something special.

Mad Hatter's Tea Party, 6th April, Eat Drink Perth, Movehub

Bring a picnic or pick up something delicious from Northbridge’s diverse range of nearby eateries ahead of free film screenings Alice in Wonderland (1951) at noon and Kiki’s Delivery Service (1992) at 4pm.”

Being an avid Disney and animation fan, this looks like the perfect day out. Another fabulous free family fun day you simply cannot miss!
